Zimbabwe rumbo a la Hacienda Nápoles
En el traslado, que se cumple este martes, participan más de 80 personas y tiene un costo aproximado de 200 millones de pesos. La ruta que se tomará será por la Avenida 30 de agosto para tomar la vía de La Romelia- El Pollo. Zimbabwe viaja en calidad de préstamo.
Zimbabwe se está acercando a su edad adulta, razón por la cual no puede estar en el mismo hábitat con su padre ya que podrían enfrentarse por el derecho a reproducirse y tampoco puede estar en el hábitat con su madre.
Zimbbwe a sus 10 años de edad tendrá un nuevo hogar; La Hacienda Nápoles lo recibirá con sus 3 toneladas de peso luego de un viaje que se inicia a las 7:30 de la mañana desde el Zoológico Matecaña y se tiene estimado que para la distancia total del recorrido, 290 km, se empleen entre 12 y 14 horas de viaje.
Durante este tiempo los Veterinarios del Bioparque Ukumarí y del Parque Temático Hacienda Nápoles supervisaran al elefante, quien tendrá forma de beber agua y alimentarse ya que el guacal está especialmente adecuado para el traslado. Adicionalmente se tienen programas 5 paradas cortas (entre 5 y 10 minutos c/u) para hacer revisiones del proceso y del estado del animal; y 2 paradas de 20 a 30 minutos para descanso, alimentación e hidratación.
Su nuevo hogar tiene dos hectáreas y además los esperan dos hembras jóvenes, Rani y Junior, con quienes podrá reproducirse. En la naturaleza los elefantes machos no comparten su territorio con otros machos, adicionalmente Zimbabwe se acerca a su edad adulta y buscará la forma de reproducirse, es por esto que el Bioparque Ukumarí y el Parque Temático Hacienda Nápoles decidieron hacer un convenio de préstamo, buscando siempre el bienestar animal.
Zimbabwe nació el 12 de diciembre de 2006 en el Zoológico Matecaña de Pereira. Con un peso de 100 kg se convirtió en el primer elefante bebé en nuestro país. El hijo de Maggie, elefanta que fue entregada por parte de un circo y de Pirinolo quien vivió en la Hacienda Nápoles fue bautizado en un evento con contó con la participación de más de 2.000 niños pereiranos, quienes con cartas y cuentos postularon sus nombres.
